Hockey Director
Position Overview
The Hockey Director position is responsible for delivering hockey skills and athletic development instruction both on and off-ice by embracing the BAHL culture expectations and following USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM). The position works closely with the executive director, coaches, teams, players, and parents to provide athletes with a safe, fun, and educational environment built on positive reinforcement and personal accountability. The position will work with the executive director to maximize opportunities to serve our membership and meet business objectives.
Key Responsibilities (including, but not limited to)
· Exhibit a positive attitude and behaviors consistent with BAHL vision, mission, values, and culture
· Assist coaches with written off-ice and on-ice practice/training plans consistent with BAHL philosophy
· Use ADM practice/training plans to provide athlete/hockey development
· Work with all coaches, directors, and support staff to ensure plans are executed as designed
· Create weekly, monthly, and quarterly checklists to ensure operations and performance goals are met and provide regular updates to executive director
· Select, oversee and provide support for all BAHL coaches
· Establish developmental opportunities for athletes outside of the regular season (camps, skills sessions, and tournaments, etc.)
· Work with director to continuously improve BAHL process, procedure, and program structure
· Adhere to all Montana Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) policies and procedures to ensure compliance
· Ensure strong communication by attending internal meetings and timely completion of various reports
· Oversee and direct evaluations for all age groups
· Foster positive relationships with various hockey associations and other stakeholder groups as well as represent BAHL at various meetings/events in support of BAHL objectives
· Aid in promoting BAHL programs to new and existing client athletes and their families to drive programs to capacity
· Work with skating and power skating coaches to assist their programs, as requested/needed
· Attend various team meetings to provide expertise on player development, club culture, and vision
· Provide quarterly written evaluations to coaching staff and executive director
· Adhere to and promote the BAHL coaching philosophy
· Serve as a BAHL representative at league meetings and lead meetings when necessary
· Hold bi-monthly coaches meetings
· Serve as staff liaison on the youth hockey committee
· Participate in a bi-weekly check in with executive director
· Administer disciplinary action per BAHL guidelines/procedures
Essential Requirements
· Must have previous hockey coaching and/or programming experience
· Proven ability to deliver high quality results in a very dynamic environment
· Strong interpersonal, communication and time management skills
· Ability to travel occasionally to event locations
· Participate in ongoing training and related professional development activities as directed
· Comply with SafeSport and USA Hockey certification requirements
· Must be able to pass a background check
Skills
· Able to develop and deploy drills and practice plans which:
o Promote competition on and off the ice
o Create an on-ice situation that maximize hockey IQ
o Improve overall core hockey skills (skating, stick skills, etc.)
· Solid oral communication skills and demonstrates ability to deliver timely results
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
· Ability to prioritize all youth programming equally
· Ability to work seamlessly and collaboratively with various internal and external stakeholders as a team
Compensation
Salary: Based on experience
Job Type: Full-Time, various hours with an average of 35 hours per week during the hockey season
